“FDA-registered” is not “FDA-approved”

The claim reader flags phrases like these, wherever they appear in an ad:

• “FDA-registered”
• “FDA-listed”

• Which word applies: registered, listed, cleared or approved
• If it’s only registered or listed, what evidence exists for the result being sold

Could be measured. This is a real question with a real answer. Ask it, and ask for the answer in writing.

Regulatory. Authority borrowed from a regulator. Ask what exactly was approved or cleared, and for what use.

FDA says that registering an establishment, or listing a drug or device, does not denote approval of the establishment or the product, and doesn’t mean the product may be legally marketed.[1]
