Master or advanced esthetician

What it is
Some states issue a second tier of esthetics license with added requirements and a wider scope. In the official sources we’ve summarized, at least one state uses the name “advanced esthetician”.
Where a state has such a tier, the title means what that state says it means. Where it doesn’t, “master” or “advanced” describes someone; it isn’t a license.
What it doesn’t guarantee

- That any specific treatment is included in it
- Medical training or medical supervision
How to check it
- Search the esthetics license on the state board’s lookup and read the license type it returns.
- If the lookup shows only a standard esthetician license, ask what “master” refers to.
