Physician (MD)

Doctor of Medicine. The degree isn’t the license; the license comes from a state.

What it is

MD stands for Doctor of Medicine, a medical degree.

Practicing takes a license issued by a state medical board. The license, not the degree, is what you can look up.

What it doesn’t guarantee

  • Training or experience in aesthetic treatments specifically
  • Board certification in any specialty, which is a separate credential
  • That the physician is the person treating you, or is on site
  • That the license is active and free of public board action; you have to look

How to check it

  1. Search the physician’s name on the state medical board’s lookup. Your state page lists the boards we have on file.
  2. Read the license status and any public actions it shows.
  3. If they say they’re board certified, ask which board, and check that separately.
