Licensed practical or vocational nurse (LPN/LVN)

A practical nursing license. What it allows is set by the state.

What it is

LPN (licensed practical nurse) and LVN (licensed vocational nurse) are names for practical nursing licenses. Nursys lists them together under practical nurse (PN).

Boards of nursing set what practical nurses may do, and some have addressed IV therapy and aesthetic procedures directly. Those rules are on the state pages.

What it doesn’t guarantee

  • That this treatment is within an LPN or LVN license in this state
  • Who supervises them, and whether that person is on site
  • Training in aesthetic treatments specifically

  2. Ask who supervises them today, and who ordered the treatment.
