Memberships and banked units
A membership is a recurring charge that buys a discount, a credit, or both. Banked units are what’s left when the credit outlasts the treatment.

What the monthly charge buys
- A discount on treatments paid for separately
- A credit toward treatments, which may or may not roll over
- Units or sessions set aside — “banked” — for later
Banked units are a balance someone else keeps
Credit that turns into banked units is a balance recorded by the business. What it’s worth depends on terms that are easy not to read: when it expires, whether it survives cancelling, and what it can be used for.
Units belong to a product. Each neurotoxin’s prescribing information says its units don’t convert to another product’s, so a bank of one brand’s units says nothing about how much of another brand it would buy.
The exit
- How to cancel, and how much notice it takes
- Whether there’s a minimum term, or a fee to leave early
- What happens to banked units and unused credit on cancelling
- Whether the charge continues while treatment is paused
Counting the year
A membership is paid twelve times in a year whether or not you book. The quote calculator counts it that way, and says so.
Worked example · hypothetical figures
$99 a month with a $99 monthly credit, against a $480 treatment
The membership is $99 a month. Each month’s $99 becomes treatment credit, and anything above the credit is 10% off. The treatment is $480.
- Three treatments, no membership
- $1,440
- Membership for 12 months
- $1,188, which becomes $1,188 of credit
- Three treatments, with the membership
- $1,188 + ($1,440 − $1,188) × 90% = $1,414.80
- Two treatments, no membership
- $960
- Two treatments, with the membership
- $1,188, with $228 of credit unused
The membership comes out lower only at the pace the arithmetic assumed. At a slower pace, the difference becomes a balance on someone else’s books.
The figures are invented to keep the arithmetic easy to follow. They aren’t typical prices, and nothing here says what a price should be.
