Per-syringe pricing: what one syringe is, and isn’t

Filler is usually quoted per syringe. That makes the price easy to say and the plan easy to leave out: how many syringes, of which exact product, for which areas.

A syringe is a container, not a treatment

A price per syringe says what one container costs. The treatment is however many syringes get used, and that number is a plan, not a price.

Syringe contents are set product by product. Belotero Balance (+), for example, comes as a prefilled syringe containing 1 mL of gel, according to its FDA summary. The size on your quote belongs to the product on your quote.

The brand family isn’t the product

A filler brand name often covers several products, each with its own labeling on file with FDA — Juvéderm Voluma XC and Juvéderm Volbella XC each have their own. A quote that names only the family hasn’t said which product is in the syringe.

Part of a syringe, and what’s left

  • Whether you pay for a whole syringe if only part is used
  • What happens to the rest of it
  • Whether adding product at a review is priced per syringe again

The costs outside the syringe

  • Numbing, if it’s priced separately
  • A review or touch-up visit
  • Dissolving filler, if it’s needed or wanted later — a price worth having before the first syringe, not after

“One to two syringes” at $700 each

The quote says $700 a syringe, “probably one to two”, with a $150 review visit.

“One to two syringes” is a $700 range before anything else is added. The quote becomes a price when it names a number.

The figures are invented to keep the arithmetic easy to follow. They aren’t typical prices, and nothing here says what a price should be.

  3. 3If less than a full syringe is used, what am I charged?
