Specials and first-visit deals: reading the condition
A special is a list price with a condition attached. The arithmetic is easy. The condition is where the price actually lives.

Every special has two prices
The list price is what you pay if the condition isn’t met. The conditional price is what you pay if it is. A quote that prints only the second has printed half of the offer.
Conditions to find
- A deadline — “this week only”
- First visit only, with the list price from the second visit on
- A minimum purchase: a number of units, syringes or sessions
- Paying in full today, or joining a membership
- A specific product, which may not be the one being recommended to you
What a special can change besides the price
- The units or syringes included — a flat price can come with a fixed count
- Who performs the treatment
- Whether a review or touch-up is included
Buy-and-get offers
“Buy three, get one free” doesn’t change what you pay today. It changes how many sessions the money buys, and the lower price per session exists only if every session gets used before it expires.
Worked example · hypothetical figures
20% off the first visit, repeated every four months
The treatment lists at $600. The special takes 20% off the first visit only, and the treatment repeats every four months.
- First visit with the special
- $480
- Each repeat, at list
- $600
- First 12 months with the special (3 visits)
- $1,680
- First 12 months at list
- $1,800
- Difference over the year
- $120
The special is worth exactly its discount, once. The rest of the year is priced at list.
The figures are invented to keep the arithmetic easy to follow. They aren’t typical prices, and nothing here says what a price should be.
Questions to ask
- 1What is the list price, and what exactly do I have to do to get the special?
- 2Does the special apply after this visit?
- 3Is it the same product, the same units and the same person as the full-price treatment?
- 4When does the offer end, and is that in writing?
- 5For buy-and-get offers: when do the sessions expire, and what happens to unused ones?
