How to check a license in Wyoming

Ask the person treating you for their license type and number, then search the board that issued it. A title like “injector” or “specialist” isn’t a license type, so a board lookup won’t list it.

What to look for on the lookup

  • The name matches. The person treating you, spelled the way they gave it. Ask for any other name they’ve been licensed under.
  • The license type matches what you were told. RN and LPN are different licenses, as are physician and physician assistant, or esthetician and cosmetologist.
  • The status says active. Note words like expired, lapsed, inactive, suspended, restricted or probation — and what they apply to.
  • The expiration date hasn’t passed. Some lookups show it; some only show status. If neither is clear, the board can confirm.
  • Any public discipline or board orders. If the lookup lists actions, orders or conditions, open them and read what they say.

Every board’s lookup looks a little different. If something is unclear, contact the board.

Who may inject Botox and fillers

The Wyoming State Board of Nursing lists injectables such as neuromodulators and dermal fillers among aesthetic procedures RNs may do under a provider's direction, once the provider has done a documented history and physical (in person or by telehealth) and a client-specific plan. The provider need not be on-site but must be available. RNs may not pick the medication or dose or recommend treatment, and LPNs may not perform injectable aesthetic procedures.

Who may operate lasers and IPL

The same opinion lists aesthetic and hair-removal lasers and non-ablative light-based devices among procedures nurses may do under a provider's direction. For LPNs, a licensed provider with prescriptive authority must be on-site and immediately available.

IV hydration and drips

The Board of Nursing says RNs and LPNs need a provider order to give IV medications or IV hydration, including wellness services at drip bars, mobile clinics or homes, and the provider must first do a documented history and physical (telehealth allowed). Nurses may not recommend IVs or additives, or store medications in a home or vehicle without a Board of Pharmacy permit. LPNs need an on-site provider who is immediately available.

A joint statement from Wyoming's Boards of Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy says retail IV patients must be evaluated by an appropriate provider, and only Wyoming-licensed physicians, PAs or APRNs should diagnose and prescribe. The physician- or PA-patient relationship must be set up by audio/video interaction, not by form alone.
