What a “guarantee” actually covers
A guarantee is a term of sale. What’s guaranteed, how it would be measured, and who decides whether it was met are left out.
Wording it covers
The claim reader flags phrases like these, wherever they appear in an ad:
- “guaranteed”
- “money-back”
- “risk-free”
- “zero risk”
- “we promise”
What would back it up
- The written terms
- The measurement that triggers it: photos, a measurement, a date
- Who decides, and whether that’s the person who sold it
- What you get back, and when
The question to ask
What exactly is guaranteed, measured how, decided by whom — and can I have that in writing?
Can it be checked?
Nothing would count as failing it. No answer could count against it, so asking about it tends to get the same sentence back. Ask about something you can check instead.
Outcome. A statement about the result. Ask what is measured, by whom, and against what.
