“Years of experience”: experience with what?

How many of those were this treatment, done by the person treating you, recently. The printed number is rarely that one.

Wording it covers

The claim reader flags phrases like these, wherever they appear in an ad:

  • “years of experience”
  • “extensive training”
  • “thousands of treatments”
  • “over 10,000 procedures”

What would back it up

  • How many of this exact treatment they’ve done in the last year
  • Training on this specific product or device, and who gave it
  • Whether the number belongs to the person or to the business

The question to ask

How many of this exact treatment have you personally done in the last year?

Can it be checked?

Could be measured. This is a real question with a real answer. Ask it, and ask for the answer in writing.

Credential. A statement about qualification. Ask for the license and the board that issued it.
