Commercial claim · Could be measured

“As low as $49 a month”

The total. A monthly figure describes the same money, plus any interest, over a term the ad doesn’t name.

Wording it covers

The claim reader flags phrases like these, wherever they appear in an ad:

  • “financing”
  • “0% APR”
  • “as low as $49 a month”
  • “no interest if paid in full”
  • “deferred interest”
  • “payment plans”

What would back it up

  • The total you would repay
  • The term, and the rate after any promotional period
  • Whether the loan continues if you stop treatment

The question to ask

What’s the total I’ll repay, over what term, and what happens to the loan if I stop treatment?

Can it be checked?

Could be measured. This is a real question with a real answer. Ask it, and ask for the answer in writing.

Commercial. A term of the sale. Ask for it in writing before any money moves.

What the record says

For deferred-interest promotions, the CFPB explains that if you don’t pay the balance in full in time, you can be charged interest for each month of the promotional period, and that minimum payments probably won’t be enough to clear it in time.[1]
